Delhi High Court issues notice to Jet Airways

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Jet Airways on a plea seeking direction to the Civil Aviation Ministry and DGCA to ensure refunds or provide alternative travel mode for passengers who have booked tickets with the airlines.

The Jet Airways had last month announced a temporary suspension of its operations after it failed to receive emergency funds from lenders.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, on Wednesday sought a response from Jet Airways and also asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to file an affidavit on the issue.

The court said it will hear the matter after summer vacation on 16 July.

The court’s directions came on a plea, filed by an activist, who had said that the sudden suspension of air services of Jet Airways has resulted in a major crisis for passengers who were not informed about it earlier.

On occasion of Labour Day, the Jet Airways employees also organised a peaceful protest and requested the government’s interference to save the airline.

Jet Airways, on April 17, cancelled all flights, including its international flights temporarily, after failing to secure emergency funds from its lenders, according to a statement by the airlines.
