Army’s ‘Indian blade runner’ Major DP Singh becomes first battle casualty veteran to skydive

Major DP Singh, a retired officer of the Indian Army, who has a prosthetic leg, has become the first battle casualty veteran to skydive. He carried out the feat at Nasik on Thursday along with the team of Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information.

This was the first ever skydiving jump for the battle casualty veteran (leg amputee) conducted in India. The freefall was conducted to endorse the “spirit of adventure” for all disabled soldiers who have suffered physical and war injuries in peacetime.

Major DP Singh, widely known as the “Indian blade runner”, was trained by Indian Army to perform the first ever successful skydive. The journey to train the retired officer was started on March 18 when he was trained on first jump course.

Indian Army on its Instagram account posted pictures of Major DP Singh and his courage towards this adventure.

Gen Bipin Rawat, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC, COAS approved the activity for the officer to commemorate “Year of Disabled in the Line of Duty”
