Terming the book comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as “outrageous”, senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday asked the warrior king’s descendants to clarify their stand on the issue.
Speaking to reporters here, Raut said that the BJP should declare that it has nothing to do with the book comparing Modi with Chhatrapati Shivaji. The book titled “Today’s Shivaji: Narendra Modi” has been written by BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Goyal. The Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, which are part of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray, have criticized the book.
Raut said, “A BJP leader has written a book called ‘Today’s Shivaji: Narendra Modi’ which we insult. The party should clarify whether he considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi as great as Shivaji Maharaj. Without a name, Raut targeted the descendants of the warrior king – BJP Rajya Sabha member Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje and former Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosle, who had recently left the NCP and joined the BJP.
The Shiv Sena leader said, “The descendants of Chhatrapati Shivaji should clarify whether they like to compare Modi. They should leave the BJP.” Raut said that the author of the book Jai Bhagwan Goyal was once with the Shiv Sena, but was removed from the party as he allegedly attacked the Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi.
“BJP leaders are quite active when it comes to some issues like (related to Hindutva ideology) V. Savarkar. I hope they will demonstrate similar proficiency in this matter. BJP should announce that its book Has nothing to do with it.” Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member said.
The descendants of Shivaji Maharaj of Satara and Kolhapur are associated with the BJP. He said that he should express his views on this issue. Sambhaji Raje on Sunday demanded that BJP chief Amit Shah immediately ban the book, which was published in the Delhi office of the saffron party.
Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe on Sunday filed a complaint with the Nagpur police against Goyal for hurting people’s sentiments by comparing Modi with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his book. In his complaint, the Congress leader demanded action against the book’s publisher and its distributor Goyal.
